What Would Pat Robertson Do (WWPRD?): My guess: Set a cold-blooded murderer free

By now you should be familiar with the case of Scott Roeder of Wichita, Kansas. On Friday, Roeder was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider.

Roeder never disputed the facts. From the witness stand, he described the events of that Sunday morning when he gunned down Tiller. Roeder went to the church Tiller attended, found him in the church's fellowship hall, held a gun to his forehead and pulled the trigger.

Roeder's only defense was that he had to do it to prevent the deaths of unborn children. He took the witness stand and described what happened that morning in detail. You can read more about the case here.

I had a discussion about the case with my brother over breakfast this morning. He's pro-life and I'm pro-choice, but we both agreed that the jury had no choice in this matter. Roeder had to be convicted. This case was about murder.

But then, later in the day, I could not help but wonder: What would Pat Robertson do? (WWPRD?)

Look at this quote from Gerard Thomas Straub, former producer of The 700 Club (courtesy of this web site):
"Here is another example of the way Robertson would mix church and state, rather than keep them separate. Let's say that a Christian thinks God is directing him or her to blow up an abortion clinic or kill a doctor who performs abortions, and this Christian does in fact commit such a crime. In a September of 1984 edition of The 700 Club, Robertson suggested that special church tribunals could be called upon to discern if a believer had in fact received an authentic word from God which compelled him to break a civil law. According to Robertson, if this church tribunal did determine the believer had in fact received an authentic message from God -- how they could reach this conclusion without issuing God a subpoena wasn't made clear -- then, Robertson said, the church tribunal would have the civil authority to provide the believer with immunity from prosecution."
Thank God (that's my choice...or whomever you want) that we don't live in Pat Robertson's America. Could you imagine if law enforcement was outsourced to church tribunals to discern whether or not God approved of violating our nation's laws?

So what do I think Pat Robertson would do? I think he'd let a murderer go...at least, if he believed God called the murderer to kill someone in cold blood.

Hey Pat, STFU!

POLL: Brainstorming a bit to determine how to step up the anti-demagogue campaign a bit

Let's have a bit of a brainstorming session on the blog today ;)

I have posted a poll on the left-hand side of the page.  Please participate and then leave a comment below and tell me what you think we should do next. Obviously, Facebook fan pages and blogs are fun, but we have a lot of voices that can do some serious damage to the wingnuts if we unite behind a common goal.

What that goal is...I haven't figured it out yet.  Candidates, issues, calling the wackos on their BS? You tell me.

Pat Robertson on Non-Christians and they wrong type of Christians

Obviously, Pat Robertson spews garbage about virtually everybody, but I, as a Lutheran, was offended very personally by this gem I found (from The 700 Club on January 14, 1991):
You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them.
Wow, if you're not a fundamentalist Christian, Pat Robertson believes you are the "spirit of the Antichrist" and he doesn't feel the need to be nice to you. What a jerk! STFU, Pat!

Here's another dangerous quote from Pat Robertson (in New York Magazine on August 18, 1986), when he called for a "godly fumigation" of non-believers in positions of authority:
It is interesting, that termites don't build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into [our] institutions [today] are primarily termites. They are into destroying institutions that have been built by Christians, whether it is universities, governments, our own traditions, that we have.... The termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought to be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation.
STFU, Pat!

Letter from Lucifer to Pat Robertson: "Good Work on the Haiti Project!"

Dear Pat,

I must say that I'm pretty impressed by your fine work. At the same time, I'm a little frustrated that you and Rush have managed to one-up me this time. I'm just glad that my friends at the Vatican aren't still editing scripture, because you might take my "son of the morning" title (Isaiah 14:12) due to your nifty work each morning on The 700 Club.

Despite my envy, I have great joy in your success. To think that you have made the slaves of the Haitian past the bad guys brings me great glee! Pat, I can't wait until that day when I shall call you home to me!

That chap whose words we twist, Jesus, told his followers: "In my Father's house are many mansions...I go to prepare a place for you...that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:2-3). Likewise my friend, I am preparing a special place for you in our comfy Lake of Fire. You won't have to worry about those cold January nights in Virginia any longer once I call you back to me. I'll turn the heat up mighty high for us.

You know, I agree with those so-called "liberals" who want to keep church and state separate; at least I did, until your presence filled the Earth with my way. Take every opportunity to keep jamming our perverse gospel into America as much as you can. Blur those lines of separation as much as possible! Continue to divide them and use the name of the one "on-high" to divide people, spread wars and hate. When you win these battles, we come closer to winning the war against "good."

I hate to cut things short, but I have to touch base with my other fundamentalist friends. Please send my best to Hannity when you can spare a few moments. I know you have important work to do, so I'll understand if it takes a few days to get to it.

Your Friend in Battle,
Lucifer

VIDEOS: Reaction to Pat Robertson comments from Haiti's people

It comes as no surprise that there are people who are very unhappy with Pat Robertson's inflammatory comments about the Haitian people. I have picked up a few good videos from YouTube with some reaction.

First, here's a video which starts with Robertson's comments, along with a young Haitian man's response to Pat's accusation that the people of Haiti swore a pact with the devil (courtesy of The Miami Herald.)

Ambassador Raymond Joseph, Haitian Ambassador to the United States, appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show and spoke to Pat Robertson's comments on Haiti. Take a look:

As always, I look forward to reading your comments. Please post them here.

Pat Robertson has said some wacky BS about women and feminism

There's a lot of really offensive Robertson material regarding issues concerning women and equality, but here's the most tasty piece of crap. Perhaps you've heard or read it before:

The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.
That lovely quote came from a fundraising letter Pat Robertson wrote in 1992. STFU, Pat!

Here's another one that is a pretty solid piece of waste (from 1991):

[Planned Parenthood] is teaching kids to fornicate, teaching people to have adultery, every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism -- everything that the Bible condemns.
December 3, 1997 was an interesting day on The 700 Club. Here's what Pat had to say:
NOW is saying that in order to be a woman, you've got to be a lesbian.
He wasn't even that old and senile yet. Not that it would be a valid excuse to be such a liar.

And finally, on May 28, 1993, Pat shared what he believed about lesbians and motherhood:
I am absolutely persuaded one of the reasons so many lesbians are at the forefront of the pro-choice movement is because being a mother is the unique characteristic of womanhood, and these lesbians will never be mothers naturally, so they don't want anybody else to have that privilege either.
Dude, you are such a clown. STFU!

BTW, we found these gems at the following web site: http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/quotes/revpat.htm

Shame on you, Pat! Robertson claims Haiti hit with natural disasters because they made a deal with the devil!

Pat Robertson claims Haiti brought the earthquake on themselves because they supposedly made a deal with the devil.

He continued to say, "Out of this tragedy something good may come." Unbelievable!

Pat, shut the f*ck up!

The late Jerry Falwell & Pat Robertson on 9/11

Remember this gem? The late Jerry Falwell went on Pat Robertson's show and claimed the ACLU, pro-choice people, pagans, feminists, gays, lesbians and People for the American Way were at fault for 9/11.

Pat Robertson's response: "I totally concur."

Hey Pat, shut the f*ck up!
